I don't know about you, but I hate coming to school with a boring, neat trifold I thought to be good enough when someone walks in with a fabricated, extravagant board they put time into. And money. So here's a list of traits I've noticed makes such a trifold.
1. As I said, fabricated. This makes an noticeably unique to the others. Try different textures (cotton, burlap, etc.) and colors. I've seen people hot glue it to the board (the glue could also be fabric glue) and continue to glue articles of paper onto the fabric.
2. Accessories! If you're studying Theodore Roosevelt, have a mini teddy bear attached to the board, or find a way to make it's picture by cutting and gluing a two dimensional bear on. I know someone who experimented with cookies and actually glued them onto the board as a visual aid to how they rose in the oven.
3. Pictures. People love pictures, and they help in proving validity in science experiments.
4. Quality materials. If you need to keep an essay separate from the board, don't staple it together and call it good. Put it in a report holder, or foldable clipboard.
5. Don't Clutter! It's much more appealing if there is some space between the paper.
